Grab the popcorn and pull up your sweat pants because Facebook Watch is now available … worldwide!
Facebook Watch is Facebook’s very own video-on-demand platform, available on the Facebook mobile, desktop and TV app. It was launched exclusively in the US back in August 2017. The platform presents only high-quality videos made from renowned Facebook partners such as BuzzFeed, Vox, CNN, and Fox News.
Think of it like YouTube (Facebook Watch’s number one competitor). It is a video destination where you can follow your favourite channels and save videos for future use. Facebook’s Product Director, Daniel Danker, says “Watch is a platform for all creators and publishers to find an audience, build a community of passionate fans, and earn money for their work.”
But this is social media, so of course you can also chat with other video viewers as you watch an episode live. The entertainment platform not only inspires viewers to find and watch new episodes based on their personal interests and Facebook actions, but also based on what their Facebook friends are watching.
… soooo, an entire year after Facebook Watch was released in the US, Facebook finally announced on Thursday this week in a Facebook Newsroom blog post that they’re making it a global platform. More specifically, it’s now available to you and your customers! 🙌
With a big emphasis on high-quality footage, Facebook Watch allows professional content creators to upload videos to the platform. So with that being said, it is a great stage for you to showcase and distribute your brand.
Facebook Watch provides even more opportunities to advertise throughout the social media network. With in-stream video ads and its ability to recommend videos to people of similar interests, you will be able to reach users who are likely to engage with your product or service. The discussion and comment feature on Facebook Watch also means you can find like-minded people. So now’s your chance to get involved in conversations with your target audience and build relationships with potential customers.
Not exactly. While social media has seen a large increase in video footage and viewings over the last few years, Facebook Watch is typically a platform for shorter content, such as vlogs, news updates and live episodes. It’s great for getting your business out there – not so great for longer movies and, em, chilling. 😏
